How to create Double Exposure and Light Leaks in Film Photography - Wendy Laurel at Photo Native

Double exposures. Light leaks. Deeply Colorful images. Film Photography

Wendy Laurel - Unique Film Photography Master

This shoot with Wendy Laurel embodies all the whimsical excitement of Palm Springs, where Photo Native was held this past February 2019.

As part of the learning experience, Wendy Laurel - who joined us all the way from Hawaii - taught an amazing group of attendees during a quirky and fun shoot-and-learn opportunity at the colorful Saguaro Hotel, the perfect backdrop for all things Wendy!

Wendy Laurel is the MASTER of colorful, emotive imagery using film as her medium.

Iconic Wendy says :

I am more interested in the feeling you get when you look at an image than making sure it’s technically perfect
— Wendy Laurel

Her class attendees learned directly from her, the exact steps she takes when working with clients to create the kind of vibrant, emotion-filled, and unforgettable images she is so well known and sought out for.

During the shoot, Kodak Professional, one of our cherished sponsors, was on-hand giving out film freely to all those who were with Wendy! Class attendees worked on using the model’s natural movements to pose organically and effectively as well as playing with color to tell a compelling story, of course with Wendy guiding them. They also explored the use of sun flare, double exposures, light leaks, and other experimental techniques. This rare opportunity to be taught in-person by Wendy produced beautiful results that pushed and stretched attendees outside their comfort zones and created images that changed the way they approached film photography in their own work!

Keep Scrolling to see her and all the magic she and her attendees saw and worked with! If you are interested in being a part of something like this, YOU BELONG HERE!

A Photo Native shoot is an intimate learning experience where photographers not only create stunning portfolio images, but an opportunity to learn the method behind how some of the industry leading photographers work their magic.

We can't get enough of the images by Jean Smith from her Native Shoot at the 2018 Photo Native conference.

"As photographers, sometimes we rely on cool locations or amazing styling to carry our photos. But what about the love? What if we strip away the fluff and focus only on human love and interaction? That's exactly what we did for our shoot in the cutest little house in Provo, Utah. We discussed how important it is for the photographer to connect to the couple before, during, and after the shoot. Beyond that, we talked about methods for the photographer to provide direction to the couple and create am environment that the couple can interact naturally and emotionally with each other. Shooting in a home allowed us to get creative with low lighting, directional lighting, and using small spaces to create stunning imagery." Jean Smith
